Duplicate Files Search & Link

Duplicate Files Search & Link

Find duplicate files and merge by hard link

Description

The disk keeps filling up, you dig in, and it is all duplicates: the same installer downloaded three times, a photo backup nested inside another. Duplicate Files Search & Link finds the repeats first, then offers something safer than deleting: replace the duplicates with hard links, so every path still exists while the disk stores one copy.

Finding duplicates does not have to mean deleting them. Its operation modes include hard links, which merge several identical files into links to the same data, so the old paths keep opening and programs do not fail because a file vanished. Results come in groups, with size, size on disk, fragment count, hard link count and date for every file, then filters, scripting and in-list search narrow things down before you tick items in bulk. This entry is 10.8.3, about 9.6 MB, so the download link points to the official page.
