Same flat, same router: full bars on the phone, a crawling laptop — and in the next room it is the other way round. You change the router channel to "avoid interference", but whether it actually helped is guesswork. To know, you have to see it: how many access points are around you, which channels they sit on, and how strong your own signal really is where you are standing.
Homedale is a 900 KB portable program that starts scanning the moment you open it. It lists every access point in range with its SSID, BSSID, vendor derived from the MAC address, channel, encryption and supported rates, and draws a live signal strength history next to each one — walk around with a laptop and the dead spots become obvious. Frequency Usage and Channel Utilization tabs show how crowded each 2.4 GHz channel is, so picking a new one stops being a guess. It covers 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be across the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz bands.
Full access point details: SSID, BSSID, vendor from the MAC, channel, encryption (WEP/WPA/WPA2/WPA3) and supported rates, with decoded information elements available for each AP.
Live signal history: A separate strength graph per access point, so walking the building tells you where coverage drops and where the router belongs.
Frequency and channel usage: Plots the neighbourhood across bands and channels, making it obvious which 2.4 GHz channel is congested and which is free.
Recording: Scan results can be logged and exported, which is what you want when chasing an intermittent drop over hours.
Geolocation from access points: Uses the Google Geolocation service to estimate your position from the APs in range, without GPS.
One portable file: A single executable, no registry writes — keep it on a USB stick for service calls.
