Downloaded subtitles are always a second or two off from the video, and fixing timecodes in a text editor is eye-straining. Making your own is worse: pause, guess which frame a line starts on, repeat.
Jubler is an open-source subtitle editor that puts the video preview, the audio waveform and the subtitle list in one window. The waveform shows where each line starts and ends, so a quick drag lines it up, and shifting the whole file or converting frame rates happens in one go.
It handles SRT, ASS/SSA and other common formats, lets you style fonts, colors and outlines, and includes spell check and translation. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and is free and open source.
