Viena

How MIDI sounds depends entirely on the SoundFont you play it through, and ready-made banks always have a few instruments you don't like. Swapping a piano sample, fixing a loop point or merging the best instruments from several banks calls for an editor, and a good free one is hard to find.

Viena is a free SoundFont (SF2) editor from the author of SynthFont. Open a bank and it lists samples, instruments and presets on the left; select a sample to see its waveform and spectrum and adjust root key, loop points, volume and channel. You can also import a batch of WAV samples and build a new bank from scratch.

It's Windows only and pairs with the same author's SynthFont, so you can hear your edits right away.
