Description
The old Avast Free Antivirus was an antivirus and nothing more. Avast One puts antivirus, ransomware protection, a firewall, a software updater and scam detection in one window: a column of feature names on the left, a big Smart Scan button on the right, and a green shield that tells you the machine is fine. You no longer install three or four extra tools for the things the antivirus did not cover.
The free tier includes all the core protection: File, Web, Mail and Behavior shields, quarantine, Network Inspector and the new Scam Guardian, which watches the pages you open and the links in your mail and blocks phishing pages dressed up as couriers or banks. VPN traffic and the advanced firewall are paid extras, clearly marked with a lock icon rather than mixed in to bait clicks.
