CNET Shopping

Price comparison and coupons while you browse

Description

You add a monitor to the cart on one site while wondering whether another has it cheaper — so five tabs later you are searching the same model number and can no longer remember where you saw the lowest price. CNET Shopping skips that step: sit on a product page and it checks for you, popping up "Save $10.92, Lower price found" with a Compare button straight to the cheaper listing.

It watches more than the sticker price. If the retailer you are on has a working coupon or promo code, that shows up too, which is better than hunting down a list of codes and trying ten expired ones. The rest of the time it sits quietly beside the address bar and only speaks up on retail sites it supports. It was previously known as InvisibleHand before CNET took it over.

Features

Automatic price checks: it recognises the product on the current page, looks it up at other supported retailers, and shows a bar naming the saving when one is cheaper.

One click to the better price: the Compare button on that bar opens the cheaper listing directly instead of sending you back to a search engine.

Coupons and promo codes: available discounts for the retailer you are already on are surfaced alongside the price, which saves testing a page of dead codes.

Quiet by default: on pages it does not cover it says nothing; the toolbar icon opens the current page's comparison when you want it.

Firefox and Chrome: the same extension ships for both browsers, so switching browsers does not mean switching tools.
