Description
The Dude is MikroTik’s free network monitoring tool. It scans a subnet, draws what it finds as a topology map so you can see what connects to what, then keeps watching those devices and raises an alarm when something drops.
It splits into a server and a client: the server runs on Windows or directly inside a RouterOS router, and what you download here is the Windows client. It suits anyone looking after a room full of switches, access points and servers — considerably less tedious than pinging them one by one.
Discovery and topology maps: A subnet scan finds the live devices and lays them out by how they connect, with colour showing each one’s state.
Service monitoring: Per device you choose which services and ports to watch, and failed probes count as an outage according to rules you set.
Alerting: When a device or service fails it notifies you — a popup, a sound, an email, or running a script of your own.
Traffic graphs: Interface throughput is recorded continuously and graphed, so afterwards you can tell who saturated the link and when.
Remote management shortcuts: Right-clicking a device on the map launches SSH, Telnet or Winbox against it, saving a trip to look up the address.
Server can live on the router: Besides Windows, the server installs as a package on a RouterOS device, keeping monitoring up around the clock without depending on a particular PC.
