Description
Changing one firewall rule in the RouterOS web console means three page loads and a refresh to see the result, and one typo in the management IP locks the browser out entirely — leaving a reset button as the only way back. WinBox takes a different route: it can connect to the device by MAC address, so a wrong IP is recoverable without a trip to the rack. That alone has saved a lot of on-site sessions.
The interface lifts the RouterOS feature tree onto the desktop: a menu column on the left, and each feature opening as its own small window that can sit alongside the others. Firewall rules, interface status and DHCP leases stay open together for cross-checking instead of being paged through. Version 4.x rebuilt the UI, putting dark mode, workspaces and safe mode in the title bar.
MAC and IP connection: devices on the same segment are reachable for management even without a working IP, so a misconfigured address does not mean a physical reset.
Neighbour discovery: it lists every MikroTik device on the LAN with model, address and version on launch, which beats guessing in a rack full of them.

Drag and drop file transfer: drag in and out of the Files window to flash firmware, pull a configuration backup or upload a certificate, with no separate FTP client.
Safe mode: changes made in safe mode roll back automatically if the session drops, so remote routing and firewall edits cannot lock you out.
Single portable executable: one file, no installation — keep it on a USB stick and configure on site.
