Description
Late night, a wall of errors on screen, and nobody to talk to. Reaching for an AI chat usually means a browser tab, a login and a usage meter. Boo Buddy skips all that: a small ghost floats in the corner of your desktop, you click it and talk, and the replies come from a local Ollama model on your own machine, so it keeps working with the network unplugged.
No API key, no account, no subscription. Chat goes only to the local Ollama service, the app never reads your screen, and clipboard text is shared only when you ask, capped at 300 characters.
Six ghosts: shy pink Boo-ddy, lavender Violet, autumn-orange Pumpkin and three more, each with a Día de los Muertos sugar-skull look and a classic face, swapped with a shortcut.
Moods: cheery, sleepy, spooked, lonely, proud and more, driven by the time of day and how you interact; after midnight it gets drowsy.
Check-ins: it pops up at an interval you choose and wanders around after five idle minutes; the tray sets quiet hours or mutes it.
Click to chat: click the ghost for a whisper box, drag it anywhere on screen.
Model picker: choose gemma3:1b (default), gemma3:4b, llama3.2:1b or qwen2.5:1.5b from the tray after pulling it with Ollama.
Dance: Ctrl+Shift+D makes it dance to a short tune for 10 seconds.
Cross-platform: built on Electron, runs from source with npm start on Windows, macOS and Linux, or build your own installer with npm run dist; needs Node.js 22 and Ollama.
