Description
Turning a meeting, a stream or a podcast into text usually takes a pile of drivers, several recorders and an upload to the cloud. hark is a native Swift CLI that records your microphone, system audio or a specific app with one command and transcribes it on your Mac, with no network calls by default.
It follows the Unix way: one input, the outputs you name, and clean pipes to ffmpeg and sox. The transcript can feed tools like fabric-ai for summaries.
Three sources:microphone, all system audio, or a single app.
Several engines:whisper.cpp, Apple Speech, WhisperKit or Parakeet, all on-device.
Speaker labels:transcripts carry speaker labels and can export SRT subtitles.
Pipe friendly:stdin/stdout streaming composes with ffmpeg and sox.
One command:hark transcribes the mic live; hark --system --mix -a meeting.m4a -t meeting.srt records a call with subtitles. Requires macOS 14.4 or later.
