Fourier: Making Waves

Fourier: Making Waves

Fourier Series Wave Builder

Description

Textbook Fourier figures are a row of formulas and a few frozen curves, and you finish the page still unsure how sine waves add up to a square wave. Fourier: Making Waves lets you drag the amplitude of each harmonic yourself, and the summed waveform below redraws as you move, so the build-up happens in front of you.

Presets for square, triangle and sawtooth waves show how many harmonics it takes to get close to a target, and you can play the result as sound.

Features

Per-harmonic amplitudes: Eleven harmonics each get a slider, and every change shows up in the sum at once.

Preset waveforms: Jump to square, triangle or sawtooth and see each harmonic's share.

Waveform to sound: Play the synthesized wave and hear how timbre shifts with the harmonics.

Single-file offline use: One HTML file that opens in any browser, no connection needed.
