Description
Adding search to your own application with database LIKE queries is slow, imprecise and has no relevance ranking. Apache Lucene is an open-source full-text search library written in Java that builds an inverted index of your text and ranks the best matches first. Many well-known search systems run on it underneath.
It is a library rather than a ready-made app, embedded into your program and cross-platform. It supports phrase, range and wildcard queries, fielded search and sorting by any field, plus highlighting, grouping, joins, and updating the index while searches run.
Relevance ranking: Orders results by how well they match so the best come first
Many query types: Phrase, range, wildcard and fielded searches, sorted by any field
Multi-index search: Query several indexes at once while updating and searching in parallel
Highlighting and grouping: Highlight hits, group results and run joins
Cross-platform: Pure Java, so it runs anywhere Java does
