Lucas Chess R

Lucas Chess R

Open source chess training suite

Description

Practising chess on a computer often means one program to play, another to analyze and a third to build opening books, none of them talking to the others. Lucas Chess R puts them in one place: play against many UCI engines, train in several ways and analyze your own games. It is free and open source, written in Python with Qt6 and licensed under the GPL.

The modes are fairly detailed. You can pick opponents of different strength and compete against engines to earn an Elo rating, there are several kinds of training, games can be edited and analyzed, and you can build your own Polyglot opening books. Engines can also be set up in leagues and tournaments, and the analysis window shows the main line next to sub analyses. It does not support Windows 8 or earlier and there is no 32 bit build. The current version is R6.2.2, the installer is about 300 MB, and the download link points to the GitHub releases page.
