FlashPad

FlashPad

Hotkey summoned instant notepad

Description

Someone reads out a phone number, an idea pops into your head, your boss gives three instructions in passing. If you first have to find Notepad, create a file and invent a name, you usually do not bother. FlashPad skips all that: press a global hotkey (Alt+Z by default) and the panel appears, press it again or hit ESC and it drops back to the tray, so you are typing within a second.

Unlike the built in Notepad nothing needs saving: everything you type is kept automatically. Notes can be split across pages (tabs), searched globally to dig up something written long ago, and deleted pages go to a recycle bin where they can be restored. Need a quick sum? Type 1+2 and press Ctrl+Enter and the result is inserted into the text. A line like "@reminder date time task" makes the program pop up a reminder window while it is running. It is free from Baiyimeng Studio, a single portable file, and version 1.7.3 adds dark and light themes and clipboard collection.

Features

Global hotkey: Alt+Z by default shows it, pressing it again or ESC hides it to the tray, so there is almost no wait before you type

Autosave: what you type is saved as you go, so closing the panel or shutting down loses nothing and there are no file names to invent

Multiple pages: one page per topic, switched like browser tabs, and pages can be moved around

Global search and recycle bin: search every page at once and restore an accidentally deleted page

Built in math: type an expression and press Ctrl+Enter to insert the result, handy for quick totals and conversions

Light reminders: write "@reminder date time task" or use the Insert menu, and a window pops up at the set time while the program is running

Themes and clipboard collection: version 1.7.3 adds dark and light themes and a feature that collects clipboard content into your notes

Portable: unzip and run, one program file, so the notepad can travel on a USB drive
