PerfView

PerfView

.NET performance and memory profiler

Description

CPU spikes for no clear reason, memory climbs and never comes back down, and the profiler in your IDE cannot reach the production box where it actually happens. You need something you can simply drop onto that server.

PerfView is Microsoft's open-source profiler, and a single exe collects both ETW traces and .NET heap snapshots. No installer, no registry changes: copy it over, double-click and start capturing. The resulting ETL files and heap dumps open in the same window as call trees, flame graphs and object reference chains, so you can click down to the method eating CPU or the type holding the memory.

The download link points to GitHub Releases so you can pick the version you need.

Features

ETW collection: run a command and gather data while it executes, or collect machine-wide and stop manually.

Heap snapshots: snapshot a running .NET process or open a DMP dump to see who is holding memory.

Call trees and flame graphs: expand CPU, blocked time and allocations by call stack to find the hot methods.

File management: a folder tree on the left lets you rename, merge and zip ETL files and prepare them for analysis on another machine.

Symbol setup: set a local symbol directory and symbol path so stacks show readable method names.
