Description
The calculator that ships with your OS only understands bare numbers. Ask it how many miles are in a light year, or what the date is three weeks and two days from now, and you are off looking up conversion factors and multiplying by hand, never sure if a digit slipped. Frink is a calculating language that treats units as first-class values: type an expression with units and it does the conversion.
Write 5 miles -> km and you get the answer, mixed units are fine, and when dimensions don't match it refuses instead of quietly handing you a wrong number. It is also a full programming language, so a longer conversion or date calculation can become a script you reuse. It needs a Java runtime; the download is a ready-to-run jar file.
