Scythebill

Scythebill

Bird sighting list manager

Description

Years of birding and the records are scattered across notebooks, spreadsheets and a couple of apps. Ask how many species you have seen at one spot, or which one was a lifer, and the answer takes an hour to dig out. Scythebill is free bird listing software that gathers all of it into one local database you can query any time.

Entry doesn't need the full bird name: a few letters complete it, which keeps up with catching up on a field trip in one sitting. Give a record a place and it can look up the coordinates and drop a pin on the map, so filtering and reporting by region or date afterwards is straightforward. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Features

Fast entry: abbreviations and autocomplete for species, logged by date and location, with room for counts, sex, breeding code and notes.

Reports: filter by place, date and more to see your species totals and what is new for a given region.

Geocoding: type a place name, get coordinates filled in and a marker on the map, so locations are recorded more precisely.

Standard taxonomies: works with world checklists such as Clements and IOC and exchanges data with common platforms like eBird.

Languages and platforms: English, Spanish and German interface, with installers for Windows, macOS and Linux.
