Description
Write a story the reader can steer in an ordinary document and by the third branch you are lost, remembering which part links to which. Twine breaks the story into passage cards joined by links, and the whole map lies on one canvas so the branching is visible at a glance.
What it publishes is a single HTML file you can drop on any web space, no server needed. The official page is explicit that what you make is yours to use however you like, commercially included, at no cost. Use the desktop app or work straight in the browser.
Passages and links: create passages, write, add hyperlinks, and the story takes shape as readers jump between them.
Variables and conditions: record the reader's choices in variables and let conditions decide what shows next, so one passage can read differently per person.
Extensibility: add images, CSS and JavaScript when needed; story-format hooks and macros make text react.
Publish to HTML: the result is one web page with nothing else to install.
Desktop and browser: version 2.12.1 runs as a desktop app or in the browser.
