Description
Giving a Go program a desktop UI usually means dragging in a WebView, writing HTML and CSS, and juggling two toolchains, then shipping a browser engine along with the app. Keel drops all of that: pure Go UI, drawn directly by Gio, with no HTML, CSS, JavaScript or WebView.
It ships with a ready-to-use component library, from buttons and accordions to avatar groups, dialogs and search, and the live demo site lets you click through every state: selected, loading, disabled. One keel new command scaffolds a project, keel run starts it, and keel build produces an .app, .exe or Linux package with the icon baked in. It even thinks about agent-driven end-to-end testing, letting an agent click, type, scroll and take screenshots on its own.
Pure Go UI: interface code and business logic are both Go, so there is no second language and no Node environment to set up.
Three desktops plus Wasm: runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, and compiles to WebAssembly to run in the browser.
Native capabilities filled in: permissions, screenshots, synthetic input, global shortcuts, system notifications and rich clipboard that Gio lacks live under the native directory.
Component library with live demo: foundations like Focus, Overlay, Scrollable and Theme plus components such as Accordion, Button and Checkbox, all interactive on the site, with light and dark themes and Chinese and English.
CLI scaffolding: keel new creates a project, keel run launches it, keel build packages for the current platform, and keel doctor checks which dependencies your machine is missing.
Agent end-to-end testing: an agent can click, type, scroll and take screenshots to verify interactions automatically.
Dual licensing: AGPL-3.0 plus a commercial license. Open-source projects and personal use are free; closed-source products need a commercial license.
