Apache Struts

Apache Struts

MVC framework for Java web apps

Description

Writing a Java web app gets painful when pages, request handling and business logic are tangled together and one change ripples everywhere. Apache Struts, the long-standing MVC framework from the Apache Software Foundation, separates how requests are routed, how data is validated and how pages are rendered, so a team can work without stepping on each other.

It follows convention over configuration: put classes and folders where it expects them and most of the wiring disappears. Features come from plugins, with REST, AJAX and JSON support shipped officially, and you add others only when you need them. The download page keeps several version lines (7.x, 6.x) so maintaining an older project still has a matching release. Open source under Apache 2.0.

Features

MVC layering:Controllers, views and models each have one job, and the request path stays readable.

Convention over configuration:Follow the naming and layout conventions and skip most boilerplate config.

Plugin architecture:Extend only what you need instead of carrying the whole stack.

REST, AJAX and JSON:Official plugins cover APIs and async pages.

Validation and interceptors:Input validation and an interceptor chain are built in for shared logic.

Parallel version lines:7.x and 6.x are maintained together, leaving room to upgrade older projects.
