Cmdr

Cmdr

Keyboard-driven two-pane file manager for macOS

Description

Anyone who moved from Windows to a Mac tends to miss Total Commander most: two folders side by side, F5 to copy, F6 to move, F7 for a new folder, F8 to delete, hands never leaving the keyboard. Finder cannot do that, and Cmdr was written to fill the gap. The author used Total Commander for twenty-plus years, could not stand the lack of a fast, solid two-pane manager on macOS, and built one.

Rust and Tauri power the backend and Svelte the interface, so it is extremely fast while still looking modern: real dark and light modes, with every text color checked against both WCAG 2.2 AA and APCA contrast. The AI features are fully optional; turn them off and you have a pure two-pane file manager. Turn them on and you can search and select files in natural language, or rename images in bulk based on their content, with the suggestions reviewed by you before anything is applied, and processing stays on your Mac by default so files do not leave it. It is free for personal use, work use needs a one-time $59 license, and it only runs on macOS for now.
