Termium

Termium

Real Chromium browser in your terminal

Description

You are SSHed into a server and just need to read a doc or check a page, so you curl a wall of HTML or squint at a layout-free Lynx view. Termium takes another route: it runs a real Chromium browser inside your terminal and draws pages as they are, with images, video and animation intact instead of breaking them into characters.

It outputs real pixels through the Kitty graphics protocol or sixel and falls back to ASCII blocks elsewhere. Vimium is built in: press f for link hints, j/k to scroll, t for a new tab, no mouse needed, and F6 turns the keyboard into a mouse when you want to click. Over SSH, Chromium runs on the remote host while pages render in your local terminal. One command installs it with no Node, Go or sudo, on Linux, macOS and WSL2, under the MIT license.

Features

Real Chromium:Stock Chromium, so modern pages and video render properly.

Pixel graphics:Kitty graphics for Ghostty, Kitty and WezTerm, sixel for foot, xterm and Windows Terminal, ASCII fallback elsewhere.

Built-in Vimium:Link hints, scrolling and tab handling from the keyboard.

Real tabs:Open, close and switch tabs, with Back, Forward and Reload in a top bar.

Mouse keys:Press F6 to move and click with the keyboard.

Works over SSH:Chromium runs remotely; a slow link lowers frame rate, not page quality.

One-line install:A single curl command fetches and verifies Termium, Chromium and Vimium without sudo.
