GanttProject

GanttProject

Free desktop project scheduling

Description

Drawing a project schedule in a spreadsheet means redrawing the Gantt chart every time a date moves, while MS Project is expensive. GanttProject covers that gap — enter tasks, durations and dependencies and the Gantt chart builds itself, with later tasks shifting automatically when a date changes.

Open-source and free, on Windows, macOS and Linux, Java-based and ready after install.

Features

Gantt scheduling: create tasks, set durations and drag the bars while the chart updates live; with dependencies set, a delay upstream reschedules everything after it.

Breakdown and milestones: nested subtasks, percentage complete and milestone markers keep progress legible on a large project.

Resource allocation: assign people to tasks and read a resource load chart to see who is overbooked and who has capacity, avoiding three simultaneous assignments.

Import and export: read and write MS Project files, and export PDF, PNG and CSV for reporting.

No connection needed: a pure desktop application storing project files locally, with no account or subscription.
