Description
Work notes pile up and get harder to use — unsearchable, disconnected, and you cannot recall where you wrote something. Obsidian organizes differently: notes link to each other bidirectionally so ideas grow into a network, and a graph view shows how they connect. The files are local Markdown that nobody can take away.
Free for personal use, on Windows, macOS, Linux and mobile.
Bidirectional links: reference another note in double brackets and the link is created both ways, so the referenced note shows who mentioned it and knowledge forms a network on its own.
Local Markdown files: every note is a .md file in a folder on your computer rather than a proprietary database, openable and backable-up with any tool, with no lock-in.
Graph view: the links are drawn as a graph, making it obvious which topics cluster and which notes are orphans.
Large plugin ecosystem: a thousand-plus community plugins add calendars, kanban boards, task management, mind maps and sync, reshaping it around your workflow.
Customizable appearance: many themes and CSS customization let you tune the interface and typography to taste.
